Regional fare and fine wines – a choice of more than 100 – can be mixed and matched as around 25 cellars showcase their best and signature dishes from top local chefs and artisanal producers can be sipped and sampled.

Cab Franc comes into its own on Saturday June 20 when more than a dozen Cape producers showcase their products at Avontuur estate, off the R44, near Somerset West. Starting at noon, visitors can choose to relax in a lounge, or sit at café chairs with their choice of samples, while food stalls will offer plenty of lunch options.

Those taking part include the host Avontuur, along with Camberley, Cape Chamonix, CK, Doolhoof, Druk-My-Niet, Hermanuspietersfontein, Lynx, Mont du Toit, Ormonde, Raats, Ridgeback and Nelson.

They throw away the textbook and push winemaking boundaries way beyond convention. The Young Guns, as they are known, will star at Wine Cellar’s annual show, introducing the wines they make under their own labels – although many also work for well-known cellars. A selection of South Africa’s most innovative young winemakers will showcase their wines and expound their philosophies at an informal seated tasting taking place in three major cities.

The lineup includes a vintage mystery Gun whose identity will be revealed at the show. Those taking part are Gavin Bruwer of B-Vintners, Mick and Jeanine Craven of Craven Wines, Lucinda Heyns of Eendevanger, Ryan Mostert of Avant Garde Wines, Tremayne Smith of The Blacksmith and Jasper Wickens of Swerwer.

The event starts at 6pm on June 24 at the Cape Sun hotel in Strand street, Cape Town.Tickets, which include a light meal, cost R275, book online at The Johannesburg event takes place from 6pm on June 25 at Cafe Cru at Southern Sun Montecasino in Fourways. The Durban event takes place from 6pm on June 26 at Garden Court Marine Parade.

4th - 7th JUNE 2015

 The annual WWW  - the Robertson Wine Valley's biggest and most popular party - takes place from June 4  - 7.  But there are several more serious activities for visitors wanting to find out more about the valley's fine wines, including private tastings with some top winemakers. The fun activities come in every shape and form, ranging from river cruises through to barrel tastings, mountain biking and dining on a fabulous selection of local and imported foods.  Children are, as always, well catered for at most destinations.


Visitors can support the valley's worthwhile charities by bringing unwanted winter clothes and a blanket or two with them and taking them to the Wine Valley office where they will be weighed: Your gesture will earn you bottles of local wine, with a maximum of a case of six, which weighs about 9kg.

To make sure everyone arrives and departs safely, visitors are asked to use the Buddy Bus or the Designated Driver Programme. See the website for details.

Tickets  - or passports - cost R120 and must be bought at your first stop, any of the wineries taking part. In return you get a glass and a goodie bag. Before setting out, visitors should decide on which cellars they want to visit, as some activities need to be pre-booked.

 The Sandton Convention Centre makes the venue for the 2015 Fine Brandy Fusion, our annual showcase of fine SA brandies. This year's theme is The Spirit of Craftsmanship and visitors can watch master blenders in action as well as demos of cooperage as one of Van Ryn's skilled coopers shows how he assembles a barrel that will house the golden liquid for years. The show takes place on JUNE 4 AND 5.

This year the show includes the producers of small batch brandies from off the beaten track, some of which will only be available at the show.

There will be various transport options available, spearheaded by UBER. Only persons 18 and over will be allowed in to the event.

Entrance costs R195 which includes a brandy snifter, and booklets with 15 brandy tasting coupons, three cocktail and two coffee coupons.

Show times are from 5,30 - 9,30 pm. Tickets are available from Computickets and at the door.

Grande Provence in Franschhoek resumes its monthly Wine & dine Collaboration dinners in April. They take place on a Friday at the estate restaurant, where executive chef Darren Badenhorst presents six course dinners, each matched to the visiting winemakers' products and starring a particular cultivar. On April 17 it will be the turn of chardonnay, with labels from Lismore, Jordan and De Wetshof, and pinot noir from Oak Valley, Newton Johnson and Creation will star at the May event, on May 29.
